Here's the schematic for the gating signal.
There is some bleed through from the back of the sheet, but it's still readable.Someone can do a better job with MS Paint or whatever (TONY)

Thank you Don for this piece of the puzzle.  I know I won't be the only one building and experimenting with this.

    Don, A26 you didn't label it...is it a 74122???

74123 will work better because the inputs are combined within the chip instead of tying them together outside like pins 1&2 and 3&4

Tony, yes it's a 74122. Q10 and Q11 were small black transisters. 2N2222 are metals ones.

Thanks Don....you can also get the 2N2222 in the black plastic packages, they are listed as 2N2222A. Also I noticed that you have the resistor coming from the base of the transistor marked as a 47k, is this correct? I would think it would be a 4.7k instead. Are all the caps you have listed here ceramic and tantalum types?
  8. Dynodon

    #8 · date not recorded

Yes the resistor at the base is a 4.7k,I marked it wrong. The cap across  pins 11 and 13 of the 74122 is an electrolytic,non-polarized.The rest are like you think.

    Don,
Did Stan make any reference to what VEE is? Is it maybe an unregulated voltage, regulated voltage, extra smoothed voltage, variable voltage?

Tony sorry i erroneously edited your post, while trying to quote...

Here's something i wanted to know too.

    By the way,
    Thanks for everything Don.

Also I would like to add, could VEE maybe be 10v cuz on Stan's GMS he has an indicator light for 10v and also on some of the components in the patent he has them powered by 10v such as in fig. 11 and fig. 8.

just spent the last 4 hours trying to simulate dons post of the figure 6 schematic in multisim
No Luck, it does not do what we want...maybe those NOR chips were XNOR or AND on the input???

anyway i got to thinking on this and multisim has a retriggerable monostable multivubrator in the CD series
    CD4058

so i found that if we want an output that has a gate of variable width inside of a variable duty cycle from the accelerator we cant just trigger the 74122 or 74123 with the high logic signal it doesnt work...

but this circuit here does work, only change is get rid of those logic components on the input and we keep the safety pull ring to turn it off in emergency...but the most important part is figure 12

if we feed this CD 4058 with one signal from the figure 12 ckt to trigger the gate at say 5khz
and then send that 5 khz to the figure 2 manual PWM
    we get what we want

an accelerator pedal on top of a gate that is manually adjustable on top of a PLL frequency just like the normal output of fig 6 ties into the pll ay point "A"

    here it is:

wow i been try in to put that into multism too  lol  im not good at that stuff.

what is it listed as cuz i cant find it?

    search like this    *74123*

here is a screenshot of the results

filename should be 4538...ignore filename...contents are correct

I simply use the ne555 and the lm741 for the pulse width and frequency adjustable gate generator.. Like in my diagram, work very nice...

    Don

thanks for all you are doing. Please help with this one sir. the schematic you posted does not simulate with the component values given
attached is a multisim 11 file to show exactly what i mean, here is your circuit for you to simulate (attached)

i believe a CD 4538 will work better with a slightly different configuration for the circuit ( i posted  it in another section of this topic)
    thANKS AGAIN!

    Don,
Can you post an actual image of just the gated circuit section?

Tony, vee is usually a negative value if you go by the definition. In figure 5 vee was +12 volts. When Stan used 10 volts anywhere he labeled it that way as you pointed out.VEE in figure 6 just powers the ligh,no big deal there.I don't have an image for this schematic.

Ali,the signal coming into firgure 6 is from the Digital Control Means when in auto mode, and the Variable Pulse Frequency Generator when on manual. When in manual mode it will be a square wave 50% duty cycle signal.I have no idea why it won't work in your simulator, don't have alot of faith in them when it comes to Stans work.

The schematic is correct,it's how it was on the board.Tony pointed out a wrong value for one of the resistors in the schematic I posted, did you make that adjustment to you sim?

oh ok thanks...yea typically VEE is a negative voltage but I don't see where that would work in this setup. It could just be a typo.

    Don

when i was able to massage the components to make the specified circuit figure 6 work, the triggering went from 10% duty cycle to 50% and then gradually back towards 10%... even though the figure 2 signal was going from 10% towards 90%
    ???
so i came up with a better alternative that will work with up to 20 VDC that simulates correctly.
I will wait to see if anyone builds the 74122 version and then post my actual scope results from my cd4538 version

as long as the end result is the same who cares what the schematic or components are.

Don have you tried running both simulations i posted?

Also Don, what frequency range are we shooting for on the variable pulse freq. gen fig 12  ?
will the fact that there are divide by 2 chips on FIG 12 cause a perfect 50% duty cycle, becausecause those 555 timers are terrible on their waveform for output
  24. Dynodon

    #24 ·

    Ali,
I don't have the copy of that simulator,so I haven't tried to run them.I don't care to either.I was able to test that original circuit, and it worked just fine.

The frequency generator should go to 40khz out of the 555 before going into the 4017.
Any duty cycle into those 4017 chips will always come out at 50% duty cycle. That's what they do along with the devide by function.

Don, got a question about the variable frequency generator. Was it set to a max of 10khz or was it higher? I noticed you said something about 40khz, is that for the variable frequency generator?
