scr gating and circuitry

   i feel this might be another good topic to communicate on..  i came across alot of schematics for scr applications..
   
   i would like to start with this schematic

   What do you think a SCR schematic can do better then a FET orso?

   im not quite sure steve all i know is they have different characteristics and that stan used them at least in his schematics for operation.. scr's are tricky to use since when latched open they remain open until the holding current drops..

   its because they switch the possitive side instead of the negative side ??
