Hi everybody,
Mr. Meyer has been talking about "a switching diode".
I know that many of you didnt understand what he ment with it.
I found some info that might help you to understand..
Switching diodes or pulse diodes, are specially designed diodes having a switching time of less then 1uS, so that they can be used in high speed or fast response circuits.

A switching diode, as Stan Meyer used it, is a component which blocks reverse current, up to a point, then 'switches' to its reverse mode, passing the backwards potential. This prevents excessive voltage build up on the fuel cell capacitor, even allowing it to discharge to some extent. I've found in the past, through working with one of my own circuits, that an effective application requires a diode with a PIV rating right at, or close to, the maximum desired potential. And the diode also has to be rated as "reversible". This means that it can pass an expected level of reverse current without burning out. The how and the why is detailed in Steve's link. -

nice you talk about that i was just planning on using a spark gap in parallel with a diode... just now.. for my spiral
there are diodes called TVS ... those save the day in parallel with the transistors
but i believe the action of the chokes are also to keep the diode aways polarized so it never switch out or if it switches it has little reverse voltage across it... meyer indeed say it opens the pulsing ckt...
i guess theres just not enough reverse current to give reverse current ... -

I think that Meyer was constantly improving his technology. What he said at one point didn't always apply to what he was doing at a later time. -

yes the pulses must accomplish something... question is how and what!
i think he didn't change the technology much.. it seem to me that he improved horvath simply technology and patented 10 years later.. (don't meant to be disrespectful) he used a different approach and probably thats why he was granted patents...
could it be that he where using the diode as a field effect resistor? i mean since the amps are very reduced as the field reverses a certain diode could be match to actually have enough charge from the coils to give it a very high resistance during pulse off but yet not changing the direction of the current?
the higher the resistance the higher the collapse of the field... theoretically... so it would dissipate great deal of power...

today i got a meeting 5 hours with a transformers factory owner... they made for me some coils... but i ask him about this diodes he never heard about... he used pin diodes only at very low power ckts..
