Anyone know where to have a flywheel made in the UK?

Title says it all
Looking for somewhere in the UK that can make some custom flywheels for me.
Spec :
100mm diameter
approx 30mm thick
with an 8mm hole in the center for the shaft.
Material must be non magnetic, and obviously very dense (perhaps lead?). -

That sounds like something any good machine shop could do....
Would aluminum work?
To bad it has to be nonmagnetic..... sounds a lot like a flywheel at the back of a car engine.....

Alluminium is ok, but isn't very dense (about 2.7g/cm^3)
yeah, non magnetic is a pain, but it's going to be positioned very close to my stator coils. Don't really like the idea of them being conductive either to be honest.... -

I suspect if you want it made in lead there may be a few H&S problems with turning lead. What about casting it yourself - find a tin of the correct diameter, bed it in sand level, and pour in your molten lead. Or you could use a lead shot/ resin mix, which may be easier.

Does it have to be metal?
What about making them out of fiberglass or resin?

I can have them made from acrylic, but it's far too light... for such a small flywheel, I need a very dense material...tjnlsn255 wrote:

hello my friend,
you can get a rotor from an old computer hard drive, with almost that size you mention... the disk is made from some kind of metal but non magnetic material... the rotor also includes very good bearing prepared for high rpms.
thats what i use in my rotors!
its just an idea... why to make one, if you can get it from some old component, and easy to find!
i have lots of damaged hard drives here, so if you really need i can send you one...
or you mean something else? im not shore if we are talking about the same, dont really know what you mean with flywheel...

A flywheel is a heavy rotating mass used to store kinetic energy... rotors aren't a problem since I can get anything I want made from acrylic but thank you for the offer

You can make a flywheel out of any material, just drill the end of the wheel and add any amount of lead weights you want to make it as heavy as you need. It will have to be drilled and balanced precisely though, if you are to run it at a very high RPM. Nylon will work good for this, and is easy to drill and insert weights into the outer rim.Good Luck with your project. Stealth -

Nilon or Teflon best flywheel

only need a center hole. Look for a plastic suplyer in yellow page if u can't find one. I have one here for u;-) if u pay sending form Barcelona it's 100mm diameter and 30mm it's nilon
