3d Printing Energy Devices

    I just wanted to get the ball rolling, the concept of 3D printing parts for energy devices, such as air core, coil bobbins, for magnet motors, and the donut shaped guide for rodin coils, among many many other things. We would be able to design in CAD programs

    host designs on Thingiverse - Digital Designs for Physical Objects

    print them from Customize and create 3D printed products. Welcome to the Future of Stuff.

    or print them at home, with affordabel 3d home printers printrbot - Home

    ... and go from there. . . .



    (note the home printers can only print 2 kinds of plastic at this point. one of them being ABS or LEGO plastic) Shapeways can print silver and more affordably print a plastic aluminum conductive called alumide. hopefully in the future conductive plastic, say mixed with graphite powder can be printed and used, to make more of the device

    I really believe this is the future of home manufacturing, especially when printing metal or other exotic alloys can be done on a desktop printer. Btw read this new article today of yet another VERY affordable (350$) 3d printer in the make:

    ....youve got to admit its getting better.....

    what shapes would be helpful for your energy projects? i belive the build area limit is 12 x 12 x 12 in

    This sounds like a pretty great tool for making rotors. You could print them out already balanced and centered, and even have fitted slots for magnet placement. Take all of the guess work and measuring/cutting out of rotor building.
    I showed some of those links to my wife, and even she wants to get one, so looks like it's time to save some pennies and plan out exactly which one to get

    There are loads of possibilities with something like that, and if you could print with conductive plastics, that opens things up even more!

    i know right?!?! if you can recycle plastic with a filabot (beta) and add in graphite powder you can made conductive shapes i was thinking about that magnetic rotor as well. Have a look at this generator post http://www.zeitgeist.si/sites/defaul...enerator_0.pdf
    , some parts can be made for that... like an air bobbin. so looking at these printers... the printrbot that can print 12 x 12 x 12in is going to be the one i want. especially because its upgradable in the future, once you get longer rods.


    the printbot store isnt open yet, but is supposd to be opening later this month . . .

    i was looking to see if ufopolitics's project or turion''s 3 battery charge project could use any shapes... or anyone else for that matter

    ...and we can all test with more uniformity. . . .
