It seems like they take money to drive traffic behind the scenes because even some partners and big music vids with ads load crazy slow.

I'm almost positive they really do this from my experience, but I think it has more to do with whether someone is a "youtube partner" - they can activate ads on their vids which compensate both youtube and the partner - or not.
I got really frustrated as a youtube uploader and this is one of the reasons. I never paid to promote any of my vids (doing so will cause it to come up whenever someone searches for certain terms on youtube) and it seems I had very very low chances of becoming a highly viewed channel without doing so.
And I swear it did seem some of my most thought provoking vids took super long to load at times. That means anyone who did try to view them probably gave up on doing so.

The company is on target to receive $1 million in stimulus funding from the state and is working with Morrison Fiduciary Advisors to raise another $2.5 million in venture capital.
And here's the clincher. Penn State researchers have found a way to create fuel from the unrecycled waste plastic and burn it without creating toxic emissions.
"There's no ash, no visible or harmful emissions and no waste product," explains Steve Taylor, business development manager for EcoClean. "The content (inside the burner) in six months is like the dust that might collect in your window sill in the summer."
During a typical Pittsburgh winter, one burner will burn 75,000 pounds of plastic, enough to heat a 4-story office building and keep it at 72 degrees. Taylor estimates that one unit will pay for itself within 14 to 20 months.
First developed in Korea, the technology was picked up by the Penn State College of Agricultural Sciences five years ago and developed as a sustainable way to eliminate waste plastic on the farm. The burner, the size of a household oven, rests inside a boiler, which is the size of a small truck. The units are especially suited to industries that use steam during manufacturing and will be built entirely from materials supplied by companies in Allegheny County, Taylor adds.
EcoClean has already signed a long-term lease to make the units in a 10,000 square foot space, formerly the Penn Brewery, in Sharpsburg. The company is also receiving assistance from the Keystone Opportunity Zone.
The company plans to hire 54 people in the first 18 months, including skilled and unskilled labor, engineers and administrative people. Two soft drink manufacturing companies have already expressed interest.

All of the power that any car company has lies in the fact that people want their products. There is a value in what they provide, otherwise this would be a non-issue. People don't need to be tricked into wanting cars and buying cars.

My jaw dropped when W. Bush mocked the pay-as-you go concept in a presidential debate way back with Gore. (Gore's jaw dropped too but then he got criticized for seeming full of himself for showing his shock at W's crazed ideas.)

It appears Obama's bail out of banks is having a good effect. There were enough restrictions on the $ that banks now want to pay it back so they won't have to comply with the bail-out terms.

If we expected the average person out there to modify or improve their current cars I'm sure there'd be plenty of people who would criticize that idea.
Even if this idea is not the best ever I consider it a move in the right direction. I'd rather this than no attempt and I chose to appreciate what I see as progress.
This is a big big issue and I don't expect immediate resolution. I do, however, expect forward movement.
We'd probably be paralyzed forever if we waited for what everyone agreed to be the perfect solution.

Also consider, there is a very real overpopulation problem in many less affluent countries. That would in no way justify imposed sterilization, but it does make a case for providing options to people that they might not otherwise have.

That article mentions Carnegie, as in Carnegie Hall. Carnegie lived in Pittsburgh and was known to be a very harsh business man during the beginning of his career.
Towards the end he became very philanthropic in real ways. For example, we need no city libraries in Pittsburgh because he donated so many.
Perhaps Gates' life is following a similar pattern. Ruthless in the beginning and giving later on(?)
