I don't think this "scales down" much, it needs the huge numbers to create & sustain the Ball Lightening (...lol DO NOT call it "plasma" around him, he is adamant that it is not plasma and that ball lightening is significantly different). In his "COP>8" figure, remember he counts using the generated heat, and even the free Hydrogen that is created. I believe the COP from the generated electricity alone is around "2" to "4".

Also, it's not true that tremendous energies are needed for his discovery. It's just that he's dealing primarily with utility scale systems. Since each of the quantum electrons has a different energy, or voltage, a larger number of ions condensing into the "quantum macro nucleus" provides some quantum electrons which have exceedingly high energies. These energies are then released when a voltage is passed through the perimeter of the BL. Kiril says that ANY voltage will work and it doesn't HAVE to have a stair step waveform.
Kiril's first unit, which exploded and wrecked his workshop, used a 5kW Magnetron. Now he's using a one MW tube, for the higher output levels needed to feed the Grid. But he told me that he can produce hundreds of times as much energy as a nuclear bomb. He said "I know how to do this". He's talking THOUSANDS OF TIMES OU.
I asked him specifically about using the HERF device shown in patent #3798461 to achieve the initial 'instantaneous' ionization in conjunction with a Helicon coil - with cold dry air at low pressure - then using a MW oven (or the alternative self amplifying system) to maintain the BL as the pressure is slowly increased back to normal, and he told me "Your ideas are right".
I personally think this IS a technology which needs to be replicated. I'd be perfectly happy with 4kW electricity from a 1kW MW oven. I just need to get a thick walled quartz tube.

While surfing the patent data base at google.com/patents I ran across an energy producing system which is a mechanically powered laser. (#4831627) The device uses a rotating magnetic funnel to convert hydrogen gas into a laser beam. The patent keeps talking about converting mass to energy but from what I can tell it's the breakdown of the hydrogen molecule which produces the lasing. It says some debris needs to be periodically removed from the chamber, with new hydrogen added. Perhaps if a higher temperature were used the atomic hydrogen would recombine, providing a closed system? A device like this would be easier to make than the furnace.

I think the radioactive property is the important thing. Maybe we can experiment with our own components, using Galena which is readily available in peltiers used in portable coolers. Or from Van Waters and Rogers, a chemical supply. The possibility of activating bismuth is what interests me. Boron, as it appears in Pyrex, can easily be activated - to become radioactive - by hitting it with 15 Mev protons, which are hydrogen ions. The decay rate then lasts for 3 or 4 days. Bismuth might last longer. You can get it at the reloader supply store, since it's used for the pellets in shot gun shells.

I remember reading somewhere that Moray was using pink quartz. I also know from the field of Stained Glass art that uranium is the trace element which will give glass a pink color.

They come packaged in lead foil, but that's all I know about them, except when they're used in a crystal radio, they'll power a loudspeaker directly, without any amplifier stage. I have a couple of them, but haven't got the proper equipment yet to do any tests.

Scientific American once ran an article showing how to build a Nitrogen UV laser, based on the switch disclosed in Pat. #4178563. This laser is super radiant, meaning that the laser beam is built up during a single pass through the discharge area. Pat. #3879681 provides an improved geometry.
The Nitrogen can be obtained by aspirating the combustion products of a small flame, drawing this gas through a CO2 scrubber, such as, I believe, chalk, as well as a drying chamber filled with silica granules.
This system removes the Oxygen, so it should work for experiments with Activated Nitrogen, without the cost of an orange tank from the welding supply. This might be really good for quenching a spark gap.

I've had some interest in the past about the SAP. I thought about it in terms of mercury vapour, but it appears it may actually require activated nitrogen. Since the plasma accelerates when a load is applied, I don't see why that won't produce excess energy.
A discharge in nitrogen usually produces UV and is the basis for the TEA Laser. Those are simple to build (for Meyers applications) and the after effect, if done correctly, would be the golden vapor. An added benefit.

Well, when you have TWO magnets spaced like your picture, the poles are on the facing sides. Also, with one magnet, one end is N on one side and S on the other side, with the poles reversed at the other end. Tricky.
The magnet assembly in the picture actually shows 4 magnets. Mine is similar, but only has two full length magnets, one on each side. I guess it varies from one brand to another. I took the whole assembly apart, and just used one magnet. With only one magnet, it is N and S the long way.

I would think with bent electrodes, you have to be careful to make sure the magnet blows the flame away from the rails and not along them. Also I'm curious why your spark was drawn into the magnets and not perpendicular to them, I thought with the lorentz force it would be perpendicular to both the wire E field, and the B field.

Spark Gap Magnet
Here's how I made a spark gap with a magnet.
I took an old Hard Drive magnet, covered it with 4 layers of Crystal Clear shipping and storage tape, then stuck two spark plugs onto the magnet. I don't know if the plugs were resistor type or not, but I clipped the ground prongs off, and used the end electrodes for the input.
This is a very powerful magnet and produced an extreme effect, perhaps more so than what Tesla was working with. I charged a 16uF cap with a 7.5kV NST. Then when I hooked the cap to the plugs, it made a loud bang. But there wasn't a spark between the plug electrodes themselves, just a dotted line half way between them, perpendicular to the line of the plugs. Five little thin blue dashes, separated by spaces. And the dashes flinged themselves downwards, etching the surface of the magnet.
I read somewhere that the magnet can be attached to one jaw of a vise, allowing it to be moved closer or further from the electrodes. With a magnet this strong, only one of them is needed.
I also read that the discharge wires can be bent like a tiny Jacob's Ladder, only curved. Place this next to the magnet and you should get a pretty fast blow out. Hopefully upwards, depending on polarity. This might be better than the spark plugs since I was only getting one discharge per charge of the cap. Then again, Tesla was powering his setup with a HV dynamo generator. My cap only stores around twice the Joules I get with each pulse from the transformer.

Since these electrons carry charge, they will charge the grid tube once arriving there, which can be used as normal electric energy.
IIRC, the effect utilised in the gray tube has been described by Tesla as "super charging", the effect that he could charge conductors at a large distance, the basis for his wireless power transmission patents.
The funny thing is that in creating a single pressure wave, all you have to do is rise the potential of the "floating" rod, which costs you almost no energy, since it only has a small parasite capacitance towards the earth, whereas in order to transmit conventional transversal EM waves, you continuously have to pull the electrons in the antenna back and forth, requiring a whole load of energy.

Thanks for posting this Aaron. I like the way it projects the spark. I'll get one and see if it ejects my Puff Spark. I built some electrodes like the NASA plug, but it didn't eject the energy field. The key to optimizing ignition may be a combination of the proper plug with the proper circuit. And I'm still thinking about igniting water.
