Sea water or mineral-laden water tends to draw current, dropping voltage and curtailing operation
Natural waters with salt content (sea water) or iron/mineral content have a tendency to draw current; the resulting current flow causes voltage to drop and curtails generator operation, which resistor 60 (and the FIG. 7 resistive plate structure) counteracts by limiting current flow between the exciter plate pair.
