When the variable gate circuit (EE) energizes both orientation coils (12/13) simultaneously, equal-magnitude fields (5/6) in North-South relation form across the air gap, terminating field (4) as the magnetized gas particles rotate 90 degrees from quiescent, forming field (3) along the tube's longitudinal axis that expands through the pickup coils (2a...2n) per Figure 30ZD.
