DC input can be converted to uni-polar pulses via a rotating field (primary/secondary windings) and rectifier

When the input voltage is DC, it is converted to uni-polar d.c. voltage pulses using a rotating field with primary and secondary windings — the DC is connected to the primary winding, and a rectifier is connected to the secondary winding.
